You may have heard CustomVue treatments referred to as "custom LASIK" or "wavefront LASIK." CustomVue treatments use WaveScan® technology, originally developed to reduce distortions in high-powered telescopes, to:

  • Measure imperfections(higher-order aberrations) in your eye 25 times more precisely than standard methods.
  • roduce a detailed map of your eye — as unique as your fingerprint.
  • Generate digital information which is transferred directly to the laser used in your procedure, to provide a new level of precision and accuracy.
  • Use iris registration technology to center the treatment

What is Wavescan® Technology?

WaveScan technology was originally developed for use in high-powered telescopes to reduce distortions when viewing distant objects in space. This technology has now been applied to laser vision correction, measuring imperfections(higher-order aberrations) in the eye never before measured using standard methods for glasses and contact lenses. WaveScan-based digital technology identifies and measures imperfections in your eyes 25 times more precisely than standard methods. In addition, WaveScan digital information is transferred to the laser, driving a new level of precision and accuracy.

What is Iris Registration Technology?

It's the first fully automated method of aligning and registering wavefront corrections for CustomVue treatments. It's normal for the pupil to shift positions from the point of wavefront measurement to the point of treatment. Iris Registration Technology centers the treatment correctly, independent of changes in the pupil center from measurement to treatment.

What are higher-order aberrations?
Higher-order aberrations are complicated waveforms that cause minor distortions in your visual image. This is versus lower-order aberrations which is your eyeglass or contact-lens prescription. These lower-order aberrations cause the majority of the symptoms of blurred vision. However, studies have concluded that conventional laser treatment increases the amount of higher-order aberration in your visual system. The increase in these aberrations can cause patients to be unsatisfied with there visual results, even though they may measure 20/20 on the eye chart. With custom treatments these higher-order aberrations are treated, in addition to the lower-order aberrations.
